Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Air Quality Engineer in our Salt Lake City, Utah office. The position will apply academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world situations in the areas of air quality permitting and compliance, emission control technology evaluation, and air dispersion modeling for a diverse national private and public sector client base while also learning and expanding the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Conducting regulatory analyses related to air quality matters as driven by the Clean Air Act;
  • Preparing air emissions inventories and emissions calculations;
  • Conducting air dispersion modeling;
  • Developing air quality permit applications under NSR, PSD, Title V, and state-level regulations; and
  • Performing analyses related to air pollution control systems and source monitoring and measurement requirements.

Additionally, the selected candidate may be asked to support environmental permitting and compliance services in other related disciplines, such as those driven by the Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, and National Environmental Policy Act.

Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or chemical engineering or related discipline. (required)
  • Advanced degree in environmental or chemical engineering. (preferred)
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, if applicable. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of air quality permitting and compliance experience, preferably with an environmental consulting firm, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Experience with federal, state and local air regulations and permitting processes (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Experience in environmental compliance services (stormwater, spill planning, hazardous waste, etc.) and compliance auditing. (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets, derive actionable insights, and contribute to data-driven decision-making processes. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
