Job Description Summary

Installs, repairs, and maintains mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of production machines and equipment such as presses, conveyors, machines, and automated lubrication systems by performing the following duties.

Job Description

CLASS I

1) Ability to use Computer Systems to, but not limited to, the following tasks:

a) Read and send E-mail

b) Check inventory

d) Find Procedures.

f) Check the Attendance Scroller. The associate is responsible to check to see when they are scheduled for overtime.

h) Check their own training log and know what they need to complete and by when.

i) Review Timeclock Scroller

i) for accuracy

ii) to enter vacation time and check to see if it is approved/denied

Basic blueprint reading skills Follows all quality systems. General Housekeeping in the Team's assigned work areas. End of Shift clean-up. Follows all applicable procedures. Follow all American Axle, Local, State, Federal, MIOSHA, OSHA, and DEQ Safety and Environmental Policies, Procedures, and Regulations. Participation in Kaizen Events when required Must have a valid forklift permit issued by American Axle to complete essential job functions. Performs daily routine maintenance activities. Enters all work into the work order system to maintain machine history. Supports production teams as needed. Occasionally drives pick-up truck/company cars if the operator has a valid driver's license and is approved by American Axle.

5) Ability to troubleshoot press and machine problems.

Performs minor electrical repairs. Assists in induction heater setup. Ability to fabricate equipment from prints. Ability to weld. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, quality documents, set-up instructions, and blueprints. Ability to fill out charts and other simple documents. Ability to effectively communicate with team members verbally and through e-mail. Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions. Dismantles machines and equipment to gain access to the problem areas. Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems. Removes and replaces worn or defective parts of the drive mechanism or hydraulic system. Realigns and adjusts components such as spindles and clutches.

Locates damaged air and hydraulic pipes on a machine, measures, cuts, threads, and installs new pipe.

Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair. Assists Mechanical Engineer to modify sketches or computer-generated designs of machine components such as hydraulic system and drive mechanism. Observes and listen to operating machinery to detect malfunctions. Visually inspects hydraulic lines and components to detect leaks, damage, and wear. Reads pressure gauges to detect abnormal oil pressure and smells to detect overheated oil Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Uses Lockout Procedure to isolate any sources of energy. Removes and replaces defective accumulators and bladders. Connects charging assembly to accumulator and fills accumulator bladder with nitrogen gas to recharge accumulator. Replaces worn or damaged hydraulic components such as oil lines, fittings, cylinders, directional valves, pressure release valves, gaskets, and seals. Disassembles hydraulic system and removes and replaces defective actuator, pump bearings, and pump motor. Performs routine maintenance such as changing filters. Installs hydraulic oil lines on new machinery and equipment. Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment. Must be able to fluently read and interpret blueprints. Ability to use computer terminals; gages, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Meets Journeyman's requirements.

Required Skills and Education

Must have a Journeyman card or documentation of 8 years of related experience.
