Job Description
The Corporate Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) - Occupational Safety and Health Professional position is responsible to manage, implement and administer standardized EHS processes and ergonomic programs to ensure safety and health compliance to federal, state, provincial and local regulations as well as Corporate Policies and Procedures. The Corporate OS&H Professional is expected to contribute to the achievement of world class status and corporate savings through managing the elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and environmental impacts. This position will specifically focus on improving and safeguarding the health and safety of all employees, ensuring compliance, supporting World Class Manufacturing (WCM) safety pillar activities and Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001). The position will also require some industrial hygiene support. This Corporate Occupational Safety and Health Professional position will report to the Corporate Manager of Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Toxicology and Ergonomics - NAFTA, and be responsible for managing and not limited to regulatory compliance, interpretation of regulatory applicability, interaction with local, state, and federal regulators - including negotiation/discussion of remedial activities as local subject matter. Oversee/implement EHS training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted. Conduct regular audits of EHS processes and necessary follow up to ensure compliance and advise plant leadership and corporate EHS staff of findings. Analyze injury/illness experience, identify/track injury correlation, determine root causes, implement corrective action and communicate this information to plant leadership and corporate EHS. Manage new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure that EHS/ergonomic design specifications and regulations are included. Ensure ergonomic processes implemented/integrated in an appropriate manner. Manage routine safety reports including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval. Coordinate communication of EHS regulatory inspection activity with plant and other company leadership. Lead EHS projects to improve EHS key performance metrics. Manage, in partnership with medical, first aid and lost time cases to help ensure desired outcomes. Lead the implementation and maintenance of the plant's safety management system to achieve/maintain OHSAS 18001 and WCM Safety Pillar requirements. Act as subject matter expert in the areas of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and ergonomic compliance.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of safety, environmental, engineering or related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, provincial and local regulations and requirements
  • Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite and/or other software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
  • Safety related professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH)
  • Automotive or manufacturing experience
  • Experience in leading and directing others
